Integrated Marketing

Assignment #1

Mission statement: Starting with unique and targeted media brands in popular lifestyle categories, Scripps Networks Interactive builds and monetizes strong relationships with consumers by providing ideas, information and inspiration that entertain and enlighten.

Scripps Networks Interactive is organized around a consumer-centric philosophy that allows us to deliver content, products and services related to our Home, Food and Travel & Entertainment categories...whenever and wherever consumers want it. This keen focus has helped establish Scripps Networks Interactive as the leader in lifestyle media.

Consumers have come to rely on our brands as trusted resources. This makes us valued partners to distributors and advertisers who seek to target our loyal audiences and connect with that passion we've helped create through our on-air programming, online content and new business ventures such as publishing, licensing and merchandising opportunities.

Scripps Networks Interactive programming is viewed on every continent worldwide, while our websites lead their respective categories with more than 18 million unique visitors every month. Our content distribution includes, but is not limited to, video on demand, the Internet, satellite radio, books, magazines, DVDs, videogames, and the latest mobile and emerging media. In addition, our brands touch consumers through branded merchandising such as kitchenware and other home products, food venues, and experiences as festivals and cruises.

Assignment #2

Scripps Networks thinks beyond the television to continue marketing by extending its lifestyle expertise onto the Internet. The online strategy is used to expand networks such as HGTV and Food Network.

Deanna Brown, president of Scripps Networks Interactive speaks about the shift from just a television network.

“It’s a strategy shift from only being very closely aligned with the networks to broadening the way we think about online beyond the TV networks,” said Brown. “Scripps Networks is aggressively moving the online business beyond extensions of its TV networks to become multi-branded, user-centric applications, creating communities of online consumers with shared passions taking advantage of our leadership position.”

Recipezaar
One of Scripps many wesbsites is Recipezaar which is a leading user-generated recipe and community site. Recipezaar has over 266,000 recipes—all user-submitted—112,000 photos and 18,000 cookbooks. The Web site provides food enthusiasts with an intuitive browsing tool, powerful search capabilities, personalized features—such as ‘My Cookbook’ and ‘My Grocery List’—and recipe ratings and suggestions.

The site does not have TV component and is a stand-alone brand within Scripps Networks online properties. However, it can be seen as a complement to FoodNetwork.com. The combination of the two Web sites is intended to increase audience share, securing a dominant position in the food category over the long term.
The Recipezaar website has enhanced FoodNetwork.com’s already large audience as the number one most trafficked food site in the online Food & Cooking category. Together the sites offer both consumers and advertisers a choice between professional and user-generated content. Remeber people love having choices!

FrontDoor
FrontDoor.com is another website extended from the Scripps Network. FrontDoor.com combines the ease of real estate listings search with helpful content and advice from both experts and consumers. It is also the first home grown launch not directly related to a television brand or acquisition. FrontDoor is “powered by HGTV” and intends to draw traffic from existing brand enthusiasts and those new to the brand alike.

Big companies like Coldwell Banker, General Motors and Citibank were instantly onboard as FrontDoor.com charter advertisers.

One of the unique angles of FrontDoor is that it gives people insight about what it is like to live in a community before they even move. FrontDoor is about the home, but it’s also about living. With all of the information FrontDoor provides, the hope is that consumers can make a more informed decisions.

The idea for the site originated from research the group conducted showing that a significant portion of HGTV.com’s audience frequented real-estate sites. “We have consistently held the number one (HGTV.com) and number three (DIYnetwork.com) spots for home-related content in the Nielsen Online ratings,” said Brown.

Powered by Pickle
Pickle.com, which is known for its personal media sharing service is also acquired by Scripps Networks Interactive.

Pickle’s proprietary software and technology enable fast uploads of photos and videos from computers, mobile phones and digital cameras to any Web site. The Pickle.com product is unique in that it allows video and photo sharing together, compared to YouTube (video sharing only) or Flickr (photo sharing only). It also enables uploads on-the-fly from your mobile phone and all your devices to any Web site for in-the-moment sharing with family and friends or with a larger community. There is a whole new generation of personal media that is driven by cameras and camera phones that allow video and photos to be taken side-by-side on one device with ease. The very definition of sharing online is evolving from the more conventional posting on one Web site to a “syndication of content throughout the Internet via widgets,” according to Pickle’s Web site.
The goal is that this technology will enhance the user-centric, social media and personalization functionality around Scripps Networks’ lifestyle content. With Powered by Pickle, existing Scripps Networks Web sites are now able to receive photos and videos from the audience.

The ultimate goal is for Scripps to become the most dominant source in branded media and related consumer services in the ‘food,’ ‘home’ and ‘living’ categories.
